Title Proposed visit to USA by Harold Wilson, UK Prime Minster, January 1975 (1974)
Description Prime Minister Harold Wilson's visit to Washington. The main British objectives for the visit are to establish a good personal understanding with President Ford and to make clear to the American that the UK share their views on the essential interdependence of Western industrialised nations in the present economic crisis. The main American objective during the discussion will be to try to enlist and strengthen British support for their own policies. Discussions will deal with energy and economic matters such as the problems caused by increased oil prices and the disruptive effect of the moment of Arab oil money, trade and the Trade Bill allowing participation in Multilateral Trade Negotiations, Defence and East/West relations, UK regard NATO as fundamental to Atlantic security as well as UK views on MBFR and SALT. The Prime Minister will also discuss the Middle East and the Europe-Arab dialogue and Cyprus.
